The Story Begins

Happy Monday!
I appreciate your patience as I learn about blogging by jumping in and just doing it!
I am recuperating from a very exciting fun-filled wedding weekend, and resting, gearing up for another next weekend! (This has been a busy wedding season!) But today I am starting for ya'll the story of a MAJOR REDO project of our new home. We purchased the new home for three main reasons.
1. Room for "Spousal Unit" to finally have a proper shop/man-cave of his own!
2. Main floor master bedroom. Not that we are old mind you....just looking toward the future that we can stay in this house forever!
3. We love to entertain! The current floorplan, and the dream design we have to redo lend to great spaces for entertaining!
We are fortunate to have our own family architect who is our eldest child, and first born daughter! This is really important as we do have a long history of tearing down walls, moving doors from one location to another, and repurposing rooms!  "Little Miss A" happened to be home for the July 4th holiday and was able to ascertain that in her professional opinion, we really could move a staircase from an access in the kitchen to the Family Room, so we could open up the kitchen floor plan. And in addition, she confirmed that there was enough real estate to build the dream shop out back. Yeah!!! The offer was made, accepted, and we now own two personal homes! We do need to sell the other very soon, but we are lucky that we can begin redo work before we move all the furniture to the new house. We have started moving the non-essentials of our everyday life to declutter the old home for selling purposes. We found a contractor to move the staircase and guide the men in my life in safely taking down the dividing kitchen wall. We hope to start that project by next week, so that we can then move completely after the majority of the messy demolition is complete. I am posting some  pictures of what the house currently looks like so ya'll can follow the progress of the project!

This is a view from the front entry looking through the family room at the wall we hope to remove to open up the kitchen. The two doorways from left to right with the wall in between is what I hope will soon be gone!

This is the opposite view from the Martini room (yes I like to name rooms) looking back toward the front of the family room. The wall on the right is what we hope to remove.

The right buffet will have to be moved for the new staircase to the basement to be built in this corner. Both windows will flood light to the open staircase. There will be five or six stairs down to a landing, then another set of five or six on down to the basement level.

This is the actual staircase directly behind the wall in the family room that will soon disappear! This is a view from the Martini room looking into the family room on the left with the hardwood floors, to the right into the kitchen where the tile floor is, and to the basement directly down the stairs in the center where the blue wall paper can't be missed!

This is the kitchen-side of the back of the staircase, looking toward the family room. The doorway on the left is to the Martini Room on the back of the house, and to the far right of the picture is the doorway to the front of the  family room. Everything you see between these two doorways will eventually be removed and replaced with a big kitchen island open to the family room. I hope!

Looking forward to continuing the story with you along!
So until next time.......remember to always be on the lookout for treasures big or little, to recycle, repurpose, recreate and redo, with the one goal.....to make you smile!!
Deb (:
